I hate how they forced her to magenta.... Ugh.... There goes any symbolism that was made with her red color... Now we're forced with these eyes that reek of.... It just doesn't fit her character! I don't care if it's canon, I am NOT letting go all of the hard work that was made with the character's red eyes. The amount of symbolism made into that alone shant be thrown away.
Mark my words, I'll find some way to bring those heinous eyes to ruin.
How is it forced? When considering a pony's pallet color and such magenta makes more sense then red eyes, it also clashes less. To be honest it also doesn't make sense as why would one pony in all the show to have eyes taht clash with the rest of their pallet color?
Vinyl Scratch has magenta, all fans should be willing to accept that is her eye color and be willing to change how they show Vinyl's eye color. It does not change anything as eyes do not make a pony but instead it is there personality and how they go about doing what they do. Also what symbolism, how does red eyes make any symbolism that would apply to Vinyl? Sure one could always justify the color red for eyes but again it doesn't change anything, as Vinyl's personality would not change.
Heck it could even be played with by saying Vinyl's eye color is naturally magenta but she were color contact lens that make her eyes red. There is an easy fix that causes the least amount of fuss and could be show in a couple of panels. -------------------------------------------------------- Vinyl walks into the studio without her glasses and with magenta eyes. Octavia look over and says a bit confused, “Scratch, why are your eyes magenta?” Vinyl realizes her mistake and blushes embarrassed (or perhaps not, matters if you would want her not to like her eye color), “Well... I wear color contacts. My eyes are actually magenta I just like them being red. It's cooler that way.”
As for what the color itself symbolizes to me, it represents rebellion. Sure, it may clash with her color pallete, but to me that is sorta the point. She is a rebellious mare, and her eyes reflect that in her personality.
Yes but it could still be worked that her natural eye color is magenta and to 'rebel' she picks for herself another eye color. Heck one doesn't even need color contacts but could use a spell for her eyes to be different, she dyes her mane so why not change her eyes? It's a simple and easy fix just justify why she chooses to have her eyes not be her natural color of magenta.
Simply due to symbolism. Take a fic such as Allegrezza for instance.
The way that the author used her eyes in that effect made a pronounced impact on how I felt with the character. Thus we bonded with the way and how the eyes were used to that effect. Plus, the eyes make her unique in such that almost no other pony in the show has that eye color. For the sake of the show and animation sakes, I can understand. But when you have to put in the fic, it feels like you have to forcibly remove any references to what the red eyes had before.
Same thing could be said for classical Luna. Ever since that Halloween episode, I have seen no usage in the fanon Season 1 Luna since then. It almost as if they just dumped that version into the trash, simply because canon states as such, even despite whatever passion and effort that may have went to developing the previous version.
How this apply to Vinyl is that the power in symbolism that her red eyes hold. It feels like more of a bitch slap (Pardon the language) to the fanbase. Sure, I can vouch that the majority probably don't care what her eye color is at the present time. But when you have read such works that used her eyes to such an effect, it just makes the magenta eyes feel hallow.
I guess it matters if you ever considered her eyes red, even before that episode I did not think her eyes would reasonably be red. That and it's not Hasbro forcing anything but them giving the fans a bonus. The question of Vinyl Scratch's eye color has been debated for quite some time and Hasbro has put teh debate to rest.
On luna it makes sense, seriously why shouldn't she be a impressive as Celestia? Celestia has a flowing mane based not her being the ruler of the sun, why wouldn't as Luna gained a recharge of her powers grow larger and have a mane of stars as the ruler of the night? Fans get too attracted to some characters and get mad when canon conflict with their fanon. Luna wouldn't stay looking like a filly forever, once her power recharged she would physically change.
Personally I fill you base what a character is by their eyes you have taken things too far. Especially since Vinyl Scratch had no official eye color until the season two final. Now if you have them give a character a certain eye color and then change it suddenly, then you would have reason to complain.
That is the fate of fanon works, they could grow to become counter to what is in the show. Take for example Princess Cadence, who was supposed to be a unicorn, I was not happy when they added a third unicorn as it forced be create and explanation on why there was a third unicorn when before for a full two season there was only two.
Lol it's cool. Just because something is canon doesn't mean you can't make it into anything you want.
You will see later on that there have been changes to places like Ponyville and Canterlot in my series just because I want to fit in my tone and perspective of my story. Also it's a little more creative that way because it's your own idea and not something from the show.
